McDonald’s® kept it cool at the 19th Annual 2013 ESSENCE Festival

Wow, the 2013 ESSENCE Festival™ was a blast! I can easily say, I will probably never forget this weekend. Nearly half a million people came together in New Orleans and we made sure to keep the party going all weekend long.

The McDonald’s booth was a feast for all five senses with daily giveaways, dance contests, games, performances, and celeb meet and greets. And when you top it off with daily sampling of the McCafé® Smoothies, you know our booth was definitely the place to be.

Throughout the weekend ESSENCE® Festival-goers received 55,000 special ESSENCE Festival™/McDonald’s tote bags, $75,000 worth of McDonald’s Arch Cards and nearly 45,000 samples of our McCafé Smoothies. McDonald’s made sure everyone left feeling cool, refreshed and more deeply rooted to the McDonald's family.

DJ Skazz kept us dancing all weekend between our special events and concerts with the hits of today and the songs everyone grew up loving. People of all ages took to the dance floor to show off their best moves in the Sweet Moves Dance Contest hosted by actor Pooch Hall, while our Sweet Moves Hype Dancers, L Frost and Big Silly, showed off some of the hottest dance moves in the nation and kept the crowd going.

Festivalgoers were able to experience some of their favorite artists up close and personal because each day we had a different Sweet Sound performer take over the stage. On the first day, Slick Rick and EPMD started the weekend off with a bang, playing all of the hip-hop hits we love. The next day, Eric Benet took to the stage and delighted fans with his soulful voice while adding personal anecdotes of his first job at McDonald’s. On the last day, Fantasia brought down the house with both new and old songs. Then fans were able to meet celebs during our autograph signing with Pooch Hall and Eric Benet.

We appreciate everyone who stopped by our booth and we hope everyone had an amazing time! If you were unable to make it this year, make sure to start planning your trip now for next, because it’s only going to get bigger and better!
