| McDonald's Ranked Among Top Companies for Leadership Development |
![]() |
McDonald's has been ranked among the 20 Top Companies for Leaders, worldwide. This is the latest recognition of our effectiveness in identifying and developing leadership potential within our company. Last year, Leadership Development magazine ranked us among the top 10 for leadership development among large North American companies.
One of our CEO Jim Skinner's top priorities is that we have, in his words, "the right people in the right places with the right skills to execute our strategy over the longer term." We have invested significant resources in programs to address this priority, including our own learning academy—Hamburger University—and a new Leadership Institute for McDonald's leaders around the world who are at the director level and above. These programs are part of a comprehensive global talent management strategy to ensure we have high-performing, committed leaders today, a deep, diverse pool of candidates for the future, and a culture that both demands and supports learning and development.
The Top Companies ranking represents the results of an extensive study of diverse organizations' leadership development practices by Fortune magazine, Hewitt Associates, and RBL Group. The research partners surveyed 563 companies around the world to assess practices that influence leader quality and depth within the organization. Based on responses, they selected 250 finalists for in-depth interviews, which explored specific leadership practices and how leadership is part of the organization's culture. Final selections and rankings were made by a panel of judges consisting of authors, academics, and journalists. They considered not only the survey and interview data, but also company reputation, leadership culture and values, and a proven track record.
