McDonald’s Global Policy on Antibiotic Use in Food Animals was announced in 2003 and became effective as of January 1, 2005. The policy covers our direct relationship poultry suppliers. Since announcing the policy, we have worked with these suppliers and other experts to develop an annual certification program.
The program requires covered suppliers to certify that they are: |
|
- Not using, for growth promoting purposes, antibiotics that belong to classes of compounds approved for use in human medicine.
- Using only antibiotics approved for animal production and in a manner consistent with the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Use set forth in our antibiotics policy.
- Maintaining records to document antibiotic use and also effective training, communications, and assurance programs to implement the policy internally.
|
To complement the certification program, we have established a reporting system to track antibiotics use. Our direct relationship U.S. poultry suppliers are now reporting their uses on a quarterly basis.
