Open Letter from Ralph Alvarez - President, McDonald’s North America

On behalf of all of us at McDonald's, we are keeping those impacted by Hurricane Katrina in our thoughts and prayers. Our number one priority continues to be ensuring the safety, security and comfort of all of our employees, our valued customers and the thousands of relief workers who are aiding in this tireless effort. We express our deepest gratitude to all those who are working so hard to help those in need.
As always McDonald's is focused on helping all of our communities in need. We have already implemented a number of emergency policies regarding pay, loans, employment and disbursement of funds from the McDonald’s Family Charity Fund, Inc. for our employees. I am so proud to hear about so many McDonald's Family members who have helped to feed their neighbors and relief workers.
We are taking steps to focus on the future… We will re-invest and rebuild in our communities affected by the Hurricane. We have committed $5 million in direct support of Hurricane Katrina efforts and millions more in food and supplies that our system is already providing to disaster workers and many in need. And we are making it as simple as possible for all of our customers to support the affected areas by converting 100% of the proceeds of the Ronald McDonald House Charity canisters to Hurricane relief efforts. |
