McDonald's Global Partner Support Efforts

- McDonald’s Latin America
Many of you may have seen Mike Robert's thoughts or heard McDonald's U.S.A.
C.O.O., Don Thompson, provide a voice-mail update on what McDonald's is doing
to provide aid to the devastated Western Gulf Coast of the U.S. in the wake
of Hurricane Katrina.
In addition to the rapid response the McDonald's System tends to provide to
all people following such events -- from dollars (for example, all RMHC canisters
are being converted to raise money for hurricane relief in all 13,000 McDonald's
U.S. restaurants) to food and water for refugees and aid workers -- the scope
of this disaster has a component many recent tragedies have not: deeply
affected McDonald's people at all levels:
company, Owner/Operators, and restaurant managers and crew. All within the
storm's path were not spared some form of hardship -- and, with approximately
120 restaurants closed -- we're talking about thousands of McDonald's family
members who are likely homeless, hungry and thirsty, and badly in need of
basic necessities and funds to support themselves and their families until
more permanent solutions are in place.

Barstow families take in Katrina survivors
By TRAVIS DUNN
Staff Writer
BARSTOW -- You wouldn't think that survivors from Hurricane Katrina
would relocate to Barstow. But family exerts a powerful pull, strong
enough to draw some of the recently homeless more than 1,800 miles to
a new life in the High Desert.
The Desert Dispatch has identified at least 14 people from Louisiana
who have moved here in the last week -- some for good, some for the
near future, and all of them because they have family here. There are
others here already, and more on the way.
