Frequently Asked Questions About McDonald's USA Food & Nutrition
|
Q: What are the new allergen labeling regulations and what is McDonald's doing in this regard?
A: By January 1, 2006, packaged food companies were required to list the presence of major food allergens on the food label ingredient statement. This applies if the food itself is a major food allergen or an ingredient in the food contains one. The major food allergens that must be listed are milk, egg, fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod), crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp), tree nuts (e.g., almonds, pecans, walnuts), wheat, peanuts, and soybeans.
Although McDonald's is not required to follow this regulation, we voluntarily list the major food allergens for our menu items as part of the ingredient information here on our Web site. We encourage persons concerned with food allergies to regularly visit our ingredient listings as ingredients may change.
