McDonald’s Basketball Diary at the 2017 CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships in Charlotte.

HBCU fans, alumni, students, and partygoers from all over the country made their way to Charlotte, NC for the 2017 CIAA Tournament from Tuesday, February 21 through Saturday, February 25, 2017. A proud sponsor for 12 years, McDonald’s continued to provide experiences for young and old alike, celebrating HBCU pride with alumni and creating family moments by staying deeply rooted in the community.

On Friday, the McDonald’s McCafé Truck was stationed outside of the Spectrum Center, providing complimentary samples of the McCafé Mango Pineapple Smoothie, McCafé Hot Chocolate, and the McCafé Mocha to the general public. With app downloads, guests had the opportunity to receive $3 Arch Cards and branded giveaways. The McCafé Truck was the place to grab a drink, show off your dance moves, and have fun.

During the CIAA Basketball Tournament, the basketball acrobatic group, ACRODUNK, served as halftime entertainment. In addition, McDonald’s introduced two new halftime activities, the McDonald’s Skills Competition and the Life-Size Puzzle game. All participants received $3 Arch Cards and the winners received a swag bag from McDonald’s.

The McDonald’s concourse booth was the place to be with a GIF photo booth, a charging station, and the chance to earn prizes by downloading the McDonald’s app. Attendees were encouraged to sign up at the concourse booth to “Bounce to the Front Row.” In addition to their new seating, winners received a McDonald’s gift bag filled with prizes, including the amazing Big Mac Sauce.

McDonald’s owned the “Super Saturday” event at the Spectrum Center on February 25. This year, actor/comedian Young Wayne served as our host and DJ Loui Vee (winner of last year’s CIAA McDonald’s DJ Battle) provided the soundtrack throughout the event.

Attendees were treated to the high-flying performance of ACRODUNK, the Miss CIAA Crowning, the McDonald’s McCafé Remix DJ Battle, and newer elements such as the Stand Battle and Mr. CIAA. Fans had the opportunity to win tickets to the Men’s and Women’s Championship Games by taking pictures with Mr. CIAA and posting.

To top off the excitement and energy of Super Saturday, the event featured special performances by the hip-hop trio Swagu Style House and R&B superstar Omarion. Omarion kept the crowd live, with a performance filled with his signature moves and amazing vocals. It was safe to say that the lineup for Super Saturday had our guests up on their feet.
