2017 HBCU Classics

McDonald’s is celebrating History, Heritage and Legacy at HBCU Classics across the country as a part of our True To HBCU program.

We kicked off in Memphis at the Southern Heritage Classic between Tennessee State and Jackson State. McDonald’s passed out Rally Towels and 5,000 Fruit Punch Slushies while fans snapped pics at the selfies frames and the inflatable arches. Fans also played Heads Up and remixed the infamous Big Mac Jingle for the chance to win $30 Arch Cards.

Next up was the State Fair Classic in Dallas on October 7th to watch Grambling State and Prairie View A&M. The weekend started on the 6th at Sandaga Bar and didn’t stop until the final whistle. McDonald’s set the tone with a DJ, the “My Little Pony Mascots” and an amazing pregame. The game was electric, and we were there handing out Rally Towels, BOG Flyers and 10,000 Mango Pineapple Smoothies. We kept the party going in the stadium with the Build a Burger Relay Race and VIP Seating Area. As part of the True to HBCU platform, McDonald’s was honored to present a check to each school at halftime and host the Thurgood Marshall College Fund table.

After that, McDonald’s brought 8,000 Mango Pineapple Smoothies, branded footballs, Rally Towels and Arch Cards to Birmingham for the McDonald’s Magic City Classic on October 28th. Fans played Heads Up, hit the dance floor or charging area, and enjoyed the parade. It was the place to be before Alabama State took on Alabama A&M.

The train kept moving onto Orlando for the Florida Blue Classic on November 18th. Bethune Cookman and Florida A&M gave fans an amazing game, McDonald’s gave fans handheld misters, Ronald McDonald signed footballs and Arch Cards. Plus, you know we brought the “Heads Up”, dance floor and Chill And Charge Station.

We ended the season rooting on Grambling State and North Carolina Central at the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl on December 16th at the brand-new Mercedes Benz Stadium in the ATL. McDonalds’s brought your favorites, of course – Rally Towels, Arch Cards, Heads Up and a DJ. But, we also warmed up the city by passing out the McCafé Holiday Line Up and warmed some hearts with our Thurgood Marshall College Fund Premiums and Ronald McDonald House Charities Care Mobile.

All in all, it was an amazing year of History, Heritage and Legacy at the McDonald’s HBCU Classics. Thanks for coming out and see you next year.
