McDonald's Replaces Plastic Utensils with Wooden Ones: A Step Towards a More Sustainable Future

09-02-2024

McDonald's KSA Western & Southern region and Tabuk, has announced its transition to using recyclable wooden utensils in all its restaurants in the Western and Southern regions, as well as in Tabuk, starting in 2024. This decision aligns with the company's commitment to Vision 2030 and aims to reduce waste and protect the environment.

The choice to switch to wooden utensils was not made lightly. McDonald's conducted extensive research and studies to ensure that the new utensils would provide the same level of quality that customers expect. After careful evaluation, the company confirmed that wooden utensils not only align with its sustainability goals but also offer a similar user experience.

This transition is not the first of its kind; in 2018, McDonald's switched from plastic bags to paper ones, and it will introduce special paper cups for McFlurry ice cream in 2024. The company has set ambitious sustainability goals.

Due to these outstanding efforts, McDonald's in the Western and Southern regions and Tabuk has received a classification in the National Waste Reduction Charter program, reflecting its commitment to the community and the environment. The company continually seeks to develop its operations to be more environmentally responsible, and customers can expect to see more sustainable changes in the future.

As Mohamed Alireza, Deputy General Manager of Reza Food Services Ltd., McDonald's Saudi Arabia in Western & Southern region and Tabuk, stated: "We recognize the urgent need to address the plastic pollution crisis.
