Since July 2011, McDonald’s UAE has partnered with Neutral Fuels to reduce the carbon footprint of restaurants in the UAE by enabling renewable energy sourcing, minimizing waste and increasing recycling in our restaurants such as through our flagship Biodiesel initiative. The collaboration with Neutral Fuels is part of our ongoing strategy to adopt innovative methods of recycling and re-using waste products which significantly reduce the impact on the environment.
The program converts used cooking oil from our restaurants into 100% Biodiesel. The Biodiesel is then used to power McDonald's entire fleet of trucks in the UAE.
Our trucks have traveled over 22 million km on 100% biodiesel since the partnership began, saving more than 25 million kg of CO2.
We’re proud to say that the Biodiesel program has been recognized by the UAE government, media and stakeholders around the world. The Dubai Road and Transport Authority recognized McDonald’s UAE and Neutral Fuels for our commitment to sustainable transport when the Crown Prince of Dubai awarded us with the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport in the Environmental Protection Category.
