VOLUNTEERS COLLECT NATIONAL GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL AWARDS AT CARDIFF CITY STADIUM

 

On Sunday 13th October, ten volunteers from Wales attended the 2019 FAW & McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards national ceremony, held at Cardiff City Stadium to collect awards after being named national winners.

 

The FAW & McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards recognise and celebrate the tireless volunteers who dedicate so much time to the grassroots game. The awards are now in their twelfth year and the winners join a long list of inspirational grassroots football heroes who have collected their coveted awards at Cardiff City Stadium.

 

The winners in full are:

 

·         Volunteer of the Year (The People’s Award) – Gareth Rawling

·         Young Volunteer of the Year – Jessica Lane;

·         Community Club of the Year - Cwm Wanderers AFC;

·         Outstanding Achievement Award – Phil Jones;

·         Community Coach of the Year – Melina Holmes;

·         Football Mum of the Year – Melina Holmes;

·         Outstanding Achievement Award – Chloe McBratney;

·         Junior League of the Year – Swansea Junior League;

·         Fun Football Provider of the Year – Caernarfon Town;

·         Referee of the Year – Paul Fisher;

·         Football Restaurant of the Year – Culverhouse Cross McDonald’s

 

The winners accepted their awards from football legends, including: Welsh defender James Collins, former Welsh footballer Danny Gabbidon and Steve Morrison, international striker Helen Ward and presenter Michelle Owen, ahead of Wales taking on Croatia.

 

Steve Morrison commented: “These awards allow us to champion the work of unsung heroes and we are incredibly honoured to have them as part of the Welsh football community. Meeting the winners today is an incredibly humbling experience and I want to extend my congratulations to Caernarfon Town FC. Their dedication to grassroots football and the hours that they put in is key in making sure football has a positive social impact on kids and making sure they play with a smile on their faces.”

McDonald’s is the longest-standing supporter of grassroots football in the UK and through this partnership, McDonald’s continues to champion the tireless volunteers who dedicate countless hours to provide enjoyable football to children and young adults regardless of age, gender or disability.
