McDonald’s IE comment on expected industrial action on 4 October 2018.
“We are disappointed to confirm that we have been notified of industrial action in four of our restaurants - Cambridge, Crayford, Watford and Brixton on 4 October.
“Any suggestion that this activity is widespread and growing is not accurate – we understand that fewer of our employees are involved in potential industrial action than last May, with the support from our people of the union diminishing. The numbers also represent an extremely small proportion of our workforce - in Brixton, for example, just two of our employees have been balloted for strike out of a workforce of more than 100. These small numbers and this planned industrial action do not represent the majority of our 120,000 workforce.
“This is against a backdrop of more people choosing to join our business, with more than 1000 new managers recruited in the past year. As a growing and successful organisation we, along with our franchisees, will continue to invest in our people and create quality jobs and opportunities for all. We will also continue to offer people a choice between fixed and flexible contracts; as our people have told us they want to make the decision for themselves and choose what works for them. Since offering the choice to our people 80% have made the decision to stay on a flexible contract. ”
