FOOD QUALITY & SOURCING

Our top priority is serving you great-tasting, quality food. We believe in serving food in a way that supports quality ingredients, and sourcing beef, potatoes, dairy and freshly cracked Canada Grade A eggs from Canadian farmers and ranchers.

Food Sourcing

We also source from, invest and work with partners and suppliers who align with these values, while supporting projects and initiatives designed to help build a thriving, resilient food system. Here are just a few of these partnerships and initiatives:

  • 100% of the beef used in our hamburger patties is sourced from Canadian farmers and ranchers and contains no artificial preservatives, flavours, colours or fillers.

  • We proudly serve McCafé Premium Roast Coffee and espresso made with 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica beans, roasted in Canada.

  • We’ve sourced more than 600 million freshly cracked Canada Grade A eggs from 2017 to 2021.

  • The Alaska Pollock in our Filet-O-Fish is 100% certified sustainable to the Marine Stewardship Council Chain of Custody Standard.

Supporting Canadian Farmers, Ranchers and Growers

We’re continuing to help advance agricultural practices and support the next generation of Canadian farmers by:

  • Supporting regenerative agricultural practices in Canada along with our partners and suppliers.
    • Ducks Unlimited Canada has teamed up with McDonald’s Canada and Cargill to support rancher-led work through a $5 million Forage Program. The program will work to return 125,000 acres (50,585 hectares) of cropland to grass and pasture by 2025.
    • In August 2022 McDonald's Canada and McCain Foods Limited announced they would work together to create the Future of Potato Farming Fund by investing $1M in education, demonstration, and cost-sharing grants to support potato farmer adoption of regenerative practices and technology. The Fund's goals are building soil health and farm resilience as Canadian potato farmers face the escalating impacts of climate change on yield and crop quality.
  • Sourcing ingredients like freshly cracked Canada Grade A eggs, potatoes, dairy and beef from nearly 50,000 Canadian farms.

Meet a Canadian Potato Farming Family Behind McDonald's Fries

Meet New Brunswick’s Levesque family, one of the many Canadian potato farmers and farming families who make the perfect potatoes for our crispy, golden World Famous Fries® fries.

Meet a Canadian Rancher Behind McDonald's Big Mac

Meet Kristine Tapley from Manitoba. She is one of the many ranchers who supply McDonald’s with 100% Canadian beef used in our hamburger patties.

Supporting sustainable beef production* in Canada

We’re proud to say that our support of sustainable beef production* here in Canada has led to us sourcing at least 30% of the beef for McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burgers from farms and ranches certified to Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) standards. crsbcertified.ca

The Next Generation of Canadian Farming

We’re committed to continuing to help support future generations of Canadian farmers by:

  • Being a proud sponsor of the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders. The CCYL Program is a national initiative of the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) established in 2010 that provides young people ages 18-35 with industry-specific training and mentorship opportunities to help further the success of the Canadian beef industry into the future.
  • McDonald’s Canada and 4-H Canada launched the Future of Agriculture National Scholarship program to help support the next generation of Canadian farmers. Over the next two years, $80,000 in scholarship awards will help 4-H youth leaders advance important work and educational pursuits in agricultural innovation.
